Johnson Steel Company, an Equal Opportunity Employer, considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin. Johnson Steel also promotes a drug-free and smoke-free workplace.

Voluntary Consent to pre-Employment Drug Screening

Johnson Steel has a vital interest in maintaining safe, healthful and efficient working conditions for its employees. Using or being under the influence of drugs may pose serious safety and health risks not only for the user but for co-workers and the public.

Applicants understand and voluntarily agree to submit to pre-employment drug screening. Applicants further agree to release the Company from any and all liabilities, claims, demands, and causes of action of every kind and nature arising out of the pre-employment drug screening and any decision concerning employment made by Johnson Steel, in whole or in part, based upon the results of pre-employment drug screening.

Applicants who are unwilling to agree with these conditions should not apply for employment with Johnson Steel. Refusal to agree to pre-employment drug screening at this time does not preclude an applicant from applying for employment with Johnson Steel at some future date when the applicant will agree to conform to policies.

Subject: Applying for employment

Hello, I would like to apply for a position at the Johnson Steel Company. I have a question about the drug screening policy and the rules of the company.

I smoke occasionally, but if I get hired, I will not smoke in the workplace. But is it possible to smoke outside during lunch and breaks? It says you guys are vitally interested in maintaining safe, healthful, and efficient working conditions for your employees. Does that mean safe altogether, or just the environment of workers? I'm sure you guys have smokers that work for the company.

I agree to submit to drug screening and everything else you said, just wanted to know about the smoking policy. Thank you.
