Subject: Athletics courses
Dear Mr. Phansol,
The kickboxing and ju-jitsu class schedules have been finalized. We currently have 1 kickboxing class at 7:00 p.m., and 1 ju-jitsu class at 8:00 p.m. The remaining 6 courses are scheduled to begin during the daytime.
While this may help out our instructors most of whom would rather work during the day, it presents a difficult situation for our customers. Kickboxing and ju-jitsu are some of our more popular classes with the full-time employee customers, most of whom cannot get to our gym until 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. With only 2 classes in the evening, it is likely that the classes will fill immediately, leaving a good number of interested customers without a class to attend.
Having 6 classes in the daytime hours makes little sense from a marketing perspective either. Most of our potential daytime customers are retired, and show little interest in the martial arts. We will be hard pressed to fill even 1 class during these hours. We would be paying instructors to teach classes with just a few people, while we turn away people who wish to take these classes during evening hours.
Perhaps if you spoke to the instructors, you could talk to them into changing their classes to evening hours.

Dear Ms. Thansom,
I visited my teachers late yesterday afternoon concerning the issue you raised in your e-mail.
What I learned was that we currently have only 1 kickboxing and ju-jitsu instructor that is available in the evenings. Though we have 4 instructors with certifications on staff, 3 are only available during the daytime. When I asked them why they were unavailable, 1 was told by 2 teachers that they had other social commitments in the evening. The third said simply that he "spent the evening with his family."
Not having their contracts with me, I was unable to insist that they make themselves available in the evening.
I have put in a request to the personnel office for access to the 3 teachers' contracts. If I learn that they are not specifically exempt from teaching evening classes, then I will inform them of this.
We stand to lose a good deal of our customers as well as our revenue if we don't reverse this situation.
As always, I appreciate your help in this matter.
