Subject: Establishing Blogs
Good morning Ms. Chezel,
After the June seminar on Alternative Advertising, I am more confident in the benefits of company blog sites. I was especially surprised at the following statistic:“ 10% of the top 500 revenue-earning companies have external blogs.” The main Internet site that currently provides our customers with product information is essential, but it is no longer the only Internet tool out there.
Customers expect a higher level of service than ever before. An external blog however can present information in a different, more informal way. Joker, for example, the British shoe maker, announces new products through its corporate blog and lets customers post their own product reviews. Some companies feel that this may be a way of creating negative publicity for themselves, though Joker argues that it is a more transparent and honest way to do business.
External blogs can also be efficient ways to update company concerns and product news without having to make changes to the main site. Of course, our main page will always include the most important updates, but a blog will allow us to post greater amounts of information to a wider group of readers. Bizwell Research Group reported in a fall release that“ 60 to 70% of large companies now make use of company controlled blogging.” I'm hopeful that there are profitable reasons for doing this.
I welcome your thoughts on this topic.
