Questions below refer to the following recipe and letter.

Mango Banana Shake

Total Preparation Time: 6 minutes

Serves 4 as a drink

1 large ripe mango

2 ripe bananas

1 cup of orange juice

2 cups of vanilla ice cream

1/3 cup of pure maple syrup (optional)

Peel and cut mango and bananas into small chunks. In a blender, blend the mango, bananas, orange juice, and ice cream until smooth. Taste the shake and if you would like it a bit sweeter, add the maple syrup a little at a time until it's right for you. Pour into a glass and garnish with a fresh strawberry.

To: Editors of Healthy Times Magazine

As I have subscribed to Healthy Times Magazine for a long time, I have often taken advantage of your recipes and must be happy with their great results. Your recent December issue was, as usual, filled with nutritious meals with some good flavoring, many of which I have already tried to cook at home.

A few days ago, however, I attempted to make the mango banana shake from the recipe on page 23 of the magazine in the Healthy Snacks section. While the shake was tasty, I was not satisfied with the recipe for two reasons. First, I was astonished to see a recipe in the Healthy Snacks section have a shake calling for two cups of vanilla ice cream (and optional maple syrup!). Two cups of ice cream divided among 4 people is not particularly healthy. Second, while the shake is flavorful, it's awfully thick. I think calling for more orange juice and less ice cream could remedy both of these problems and still leave a delicious shake.

Still, the next issue of Healthy Times Magazine is highly awaited, and I hope that it will include more of the simple, healthy recipes that I have come to anticipate.

Sincerely,

Jessica Garza
