Located
in the east wing of Wilton Hall, the Film Library is a favorite place for
film fans and professionals alike. Membership is needed to access this
comprehensive film and television research collection, but it's worth the
effort. Managed by the Australian Film Institute, the Film Library contains
over 40,000 works in print, from theses and biographies to film scripts. Be
aware though. It doesn't work quite the same way as the public library. Here
are a few things you should know beforehand:
*
Reading space is limited to 30 persons. However there are no reservations and
even first-time visitors must become members by purchasing a yearly, monthly,
or weekly Library Pass.
*
Books and materials can only be read on site. No materials are permitted to
leave the library.
*
Members are free to handle and read all books contained in the Film Library.
Other materials located in the AFI Film Catalog can only be viewed by filling
out a Materials Request Form and handing it to a staff member.
*
Backpacks and computer bags are not permitted in the Film Library. Lockers
are available for a small refundable charge.
