The Green Summer project began in 1992 when a group of students from the University of Education organized literacy classes for people in and around Ho Chi Minh City. The move was immediately applauded and received great support.
Every year, hundreds of university students volunteer to work on community projects in far-flung areas of the country. Not only is it worthwhile work, but they also tend to enjoy it.
First-year School of Economics students Phan Duy Phuc is said to be the son of a mandarin for he does little except study. His mother has made sure he has kept his head in a book since he was an infant.
This summer Phuc decided to do something a little different and develop his own independence by taking part in the ninth “Green Summer” campaign, considered an excellent experience for university students of all stripes.
